What is Privigen?
Privigen is an intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy composed of purified human immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of:
- Primary Humoral Immunodeficiency (PI): A group of disorders where the immune system fails to produce adequate antibodies, increasing susceptibility to infections.
- Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP): An autoimmune disorder characterized by low platelet counts, leading to increased bleeding risk.
- Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP): A neurological disorder causing progressive weakness and impaired sensory function in the legs and arms.
Privigen is administered through intravenous infusion, with dosing and frequency tailored to the specific condition and patient needs. It functions by providing antibodies that help modulate the immune system, thereby reducing disease symptoms and progression.
